The data that measures the extent that school environments are Safe, Caring, Welcoming and Respectful.
The Audit process provides an opportunity for individual schools or school districts in Alberta to acquire data on how welcoming, caring, respectful and safe their schools are. This is done through direct involvement of students, staff and parents who participate in a variety of surveys and interviews which are conducted by a team deployed from Safe and Caring Schools & Communities.

A Safe and Caring Schools Audit will provide information and services that complement those provided by Alberta Education, CASS, ATA and other Provincial Organizations. It will enable school division officials and staff to continuously improve their school climate and create an environment that will support better academic, behavioral, social and emotional outcomes for Alberta youth.
The Inclusive Education Policy, included in the 2015-2016 Guide to Education: ECS to Grade 12, states that school authorities must ensure all children and students have access to meaningful learning experiences that include appropriate instructional supports, regardless of race, religious belief, colour, gender, gender identity, gender expression, physical disability, mental disability, family status or sexual orientation, or any other factor(s).

Safe and Caring Schools Audit

This tool is a process that includes surveys and interviews that are conducted at the school level with students, staff and parents. The information is then compiled into a report that is shared with schools, so they can use it to celebrate what is working well and use data to focus on areas for growth or improvement.
