Pink Shirt Day is taking place this Wednesday on February 25, 2015. The tradition of Pink Shirt Day started in a small Nova Scotia community when a young 9th grade student was mocked by his peers for wearing a pink shirt to school. A couple 12th grade students banded together to organize a school wide show of support, rallying hundreds of students to wear their own pink shirts to school the following day.

Edmonton, AB: Alberta-based bullying prevention organization Safe and Caring has partnered with the Breath In Poetry Collective to organize SPOKEN WORDplay: Speak Up Against Bullying on Tuesday, November 25 at 9:00 PM at the Rouge Lounge, in downtown Edmonton. This open-mike poetry evening will bring together local artists, performers, youth and community leaders to recognize National Bullying Awareness Week.

Despite the fact that over 47% of Canadian parents report having a child that was a victim of bullying, and Alberta youth report bullying as one of the most significant problems they face today, 1 in 3 adults in Alberta think that bullying is a normal part of growing up.

Edmonton, AB: The Society for Safe and Caring Schools & Communities will be hosting its 8th Annual Creating Safe Spaces Waffle Breakfast on Wednesday, November 19 from 7:30 to 9:00 am, at the Sutton Place Hotel in downtown Edmonton. In the spirit of collaboration, Safe and Caring will also be hosting a satellite breakfast at the same date and time in Calgary, at the Bow Habitat Station and Volunteer Society.
Edmonton, AB: Dr. Stuart Shanker, expert in self-regulation and bullying, will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming Alberta Safe and Caring Schools Forum. The forum, hosted in partnership by the Canadian Safe School Network and the Alberta-based Society for Safe and Caring Schools & Communities, will take place on November 24 at the Alberta Teachers’ Association Barnett House.
